Patna: Mukesh Singh, a native of Manjhaul in Bihar’s Begusarai district, has been appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory of Ladakh, prompting widespread celebration in his hometown. Locals have hailed the achievement as a recognition of Bihar’s talent and merit.
Singh, the son of Upendra Prasad Singh of Brijnarayan Tola, was an outstanding student from a young age. He completed his early schooling at St. Xavier’s School in Bokaro, Jharkhand, where his father worked as an assistant general manager at the Bokaro Steel Plant. After passing his intermediate examination in RK Puram, Delhi, Singh went on to graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and initially joined the Bokaro Steel Plant.
He later achieved success in the highly competitive UPSC examination and was allotted the Jammu and Kashmir cadre. Singh began his career as an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Mendhar, Poonch district, and subsequently served as superintendent of police (SP) in Reasi, Pulwama, and Jammu. He also undertook deputations with the National Human Rights Commission and the National Investigation Agency, before rising to the rank of deputy inspector general (DIG).
Singh’s career included significant postings as inspector general (IG) and additional director general of police (ADGP) in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), with assignments across Jammu, Srinagar, and at the ITBP headquarters in Delhi, where he was most recently serving.
Upon the announcement of his promotion to DGP of Ladakh, leaders and residents of Manjhaul expressed their joy. BJP leader Shaligram Singh, former village headman Shardanand Singh, senior journalist Mahesh Bharti, advocate Ajay Kumar, and Dr Rahul Kumar all congratulated Singh, describing the appointment as a proud moment for the community and the region.
