Begusarai/Patna:Four police personnel, including three station house officers (SHOs), were killed in a road accident on National Highway-31 in Begusarai district late on Thursday night, police said.
The accident occurred near Bakhadda Dhala under the Sahebpur Kamal police station area. Officials said the victims were returning to Madhepura after attending a training programme in Patna.
Three SHOs among those killed
The deceased have been identified as Sajan Kumar Paswan, SHO of Ratwara police station, Gyanendra Amarendra, SHO of Arar police station, and Neeraj Kumar, SHO of Belari police station.
The fourth victim, Jyotish Kumar, was the private driver of the vehicle and a resident of Udakishunganj in Madhepura district.
Police said Sajan Kumar Paswan was a native of Katihar, Gyanendra Amarendra belonged to Kaimur, and Neeraj Kumar was from Dehri in Rohtas district.
Three died on the spot, one during treatment
According to preliminary information, the vehicle crashed near Bakhadda Dhala, with the impact causing severe damage to its front portion.
Three of the occupants died at the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to four.
Bodies sent for postmortem
After receiving information about the crash, a team from Sahebpur Kamal police station reached the site and recovered the bodies from the mangled vehicle after an extended rescue effort.
The bodies were later sent to Sadar Hospital in Begusarai for postmortem examination.
Probe into cause of accident
Police said an investigation is under way to establish the circumstances leading to the crash.
The stretch of NH-31 where the accident occurred has witnessed multiple road accidents in the past, raising concerns over the parking of heavy vehicles along the roadside and broader road safety measures.
