Bhagalpur/Patna: Construction of the Aguwani-Ajgaibinath Mahasetu, one of Bihar’s key infrastructure projects, is progressing rapidly, with authorities aiming to open the bridge for vehicular movement by December 2027.
The bridge, being built over the Ganga river between Aguwani and Ajgaibinath Dham in Sultanganj, is expected to provide a direct link between north and south Bihar, reducing travel time and improving accessibility across the region.
Major connectivity boost
Once operational, the bridge is expected to benefit thousands of commuters who currently rely on boats or longer road routes to cross the river.
Officials said the new link would make travel faster and safer for students, traders, patients and daily commuters, while also improving access between adjoining districts.
Construction under way round the clock
Work at the project site is being carried out on an accelerated schedule, with construction activity continuing day and night.
Several pillars, well caps and other structural components are being built across the river’s main channel. Heavy machinery has been deployed, while engineers are overseeing reinforcement and concreting work at multiple points.
Work to continue during monsoon
An official of the private construction firm said modern engineering methods were being used to maintain progress even during the monsoon season.
The official said special technical arrangements had been put in place to minimise disruptions during floods and ensure the project remains on schedule.
Bridge and approach roads
According to project details, the bridge will have a total length of about 3.16km. In addition, nearly 25km of approach roads are being developed on both sides.
Officials said the project is designed as a wider connectivity corridor rather than a standalone bridge, linking multiple districts and improving regional transport infrastructure.
Trade and tourism expected to benefit
The bridge is expected to support trade by improving transport routes for agricultural produce and industrial goods.
Tourism is also likely to receive a boost, particularly for pilgrims visiting Ajgaibinath Dham in Sultanganj, a prominent religious site in Bihar.
The state government considers the project a significant step towards strengthening regional development and transport efficiency.
