Raxaul/Patna: The land acquired for the proposed Raxaul airport project in East Champaran district is likely to be handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) within the next week, according to officials.
The move marks a significant step forward for the long-awaited airport project, which has been under discussion for several years. Officials said administrative preparations for the transfer are now in the final stage.
Land acquisition process in final phase
The district land acquisition office said the final public notice issued on June 1 has completed its stipulated period, allowing authorities to proceed with the formal transfer of land to AAI.
Officials said compensation claims from landowners who have not yet submitted the required documents will be deposited in the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority (LARA) court. The landowners can later claim their payments through the legal process.
District Land Acquisition Officer Arun Kumar said an AAI team is expected to arrive in Motihari within the next few days to complete the required formalities.

Land from six villages included
The airport expansion project involves land acquired from six mouzas — Bharatmahi, Ekderwa, Singhpur, Chikni, Siswa and Chanduli.
Officials said the project is being prioritised and efforts are being made to avoid further delays in the transfer process.
Boost for border region connectivity
Raxaul, located on the India-Nepal border, is a key trade centre and transport hub in the region.
Authorities and local stakeholders say the airport could improve connectivity for East Champaran, north Bihar and the Terai region of Nepal, while also supporting trade, tourism, investment and disaster response capabilities.
The project is seen as an important infrastructure initiative that could strengthen Raxaul’s strategic and economic role in the region.
