Gaya: A Jan Suraaj candidate from Belaganj in Bihar was injured in a violent clash over a land dispute that escalated into firing late on Saturday night, police said.
The incident took place in Bhalwa-1 under Belaganj police station limits, where supporters of Mohd Amjad, the Jan Suraj candidate, and Mohd Nazim clashed with sticks and rods. According to residents, the confrontation later involved gunfire.
Amjad and Nazim both sustained injuries and were admitted to Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya, where they recorded their statements to police.
FIRs have been filed by both groups. Nine people have been named in one case and six in the other, with police arresting eight individuals in total. Officers recovered a gun, five live cartridges and one spent shell from the scene.
Police said the weapon reportedly belonged to Amjad. In his complaint, he alleged that rivals had snatched his gun and fired it. However, investigators clarified that no one suffered bullet injuries, with all injuries caused by sticks and rods.
