Patna: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in 17 districts of Bihar today, warning of light to moderate showers accompanied by lightning.
According to the forecast, Patna is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with chances of rain increasing after August 21. Meteorologists have indicated that the monsoon will become active again, leading to heavy rainfall in several districts, including the state capital.
25% Rainfall Deficit in Bihar
Bihar has so far recorded 25 percent less rainfall than normal this monsoon season. From June to August 17, the state should have received 697.1 mm of rainfall, but only 493 mm has been recorded. Most parts of the state are likely to remain cloudy for the next two to three days without significant rain. Once the new system becomes active, heavy rainfall is expected in northern, north-eastern, and eastern Bihar.
Low Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal
A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is gradually moving northwest, which is expected to increase moisture levels in Bihar around August 21. This system is likely to trigger widespread showers between August 21 and 27, bringing heavy rain to several districts. During this period, daytime temperatures are also expected to drop.
Temperature Trends
For the next five days, there will be no significant change in temperatures across Bihar. The maximum temperature is likely to remain 1–2 degrees Celsius above normal, while the minimum temperature will stay steady. People are likely to face humid conditions during the day.
Weather in Patna
In Patna, the weather will remain partly cloudy for the next two days, with temperatures hovering around 35–36 degrees Celsius. Due to easterly and south-easterly winds, moisture levels will remain high, increasing discomfort from humidity. After August 21, the city is expected to witness light to moderate rainfall, with moderate showers likely on August 23 and 24. This will bring down the temperature and make the weather relatively pleasant.
