Saran: Two young men from a village in Bihar’s Saran district have died after suffering severe burns in a gas cylinder fire in Bengaluru, deepening grief in their community as three others remain hospitalised.
Khalil Mian, the son of Arbaz Ali and a resident of Gurdahan Khurd village in Manjhi block, died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment. His death followed that of Muzaffar Ali, who succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening. Both had been critically injured in the same incident.
The fire broke out on the morning of January 9 in a room in Bengaluru, where five young men from the same village were living and working. According to local accounts, the group was making tea when a gas leak occurred. The cylinder caught fire suddenly, and flames spread rapidly, engulfing the room and leaving all five with serious burns.
Neighbours rushed to the scene and helped rescue the men before ambulances took them to hospital. Police arrived shortly afterwards and, given the severity of the injuries, the victims were referred to a larger facility.
All five were admitted to Victoria Hospital and Research Centre, where they were placed in intensive care. Doctors described the condition of Khalil Mian and Muzaffar Ali as extremely critical from the outset, citing extensive burns and rapidly spreading infection. Despite days of treatment, both died from their injuries.
The remaining three men are still receiving treatment. Hospital officials said their condition is serious but stable and that they are being closely monitored.
News of the deaths has cast a pall over Gurdahan Khurd village in Saran district. Families and neighbours gathered to mourn, with villagers saying the men had travelled to Bengaluru in search of work and a better future. “In a moment, everything changed,” one resident said, as the community struggled to come to terms with the loss.
