Bhagalpur: A strange and worrying scene unfolded in Bhagalpur on Sunday morning when around 150 crows were found dead under a tree in the Naugachhia sub-divisional grounds. Morning walkers were the first to notice the lifeless birds scattered across the ground and beneath the trees. The sight caused immediate panic, with many people stopping to take a closer look, shocked by the scale of the incident. For residents who regularly visit the area, such a scene was completely unheard of.
As news spread, local people quickly informed the Forest Department. A team of officials reached the spot soon after and began inspecting the area. According to eyewitnesses, the number of dead birds was unusually high, all found in one place. Neeraj Kumar, who was present at the grounds, said he had never witnessed anything like this before. “Seeing so many dead crows together was frightening. People were confused and scared,” he said, reflecting the general mood in the area.
Forest Department officials said that while cold weather could be one possible reason, they were not ruling out other causes. Forest Guard Rajiv Kumar explained that sudden drops in temperature can sometimes affect birds, especially during winter. However, he also admitted that the death of such a large number of crows at the same spot raised serious questions. Because of this, the department decided to proceed with caution rather than make early assumptions.
All the dead crows have been sent to Bhagalpur for post-mortem examination, where experts will study the bodies to determine the exact cause of death. Officials said the final conclusion would only be possible after receiving the medical reports. Until then, the incident has left residents uneasy, with many hoping the investigation will soon provide clear answers and rule out any threat to public health or the environment.
