Bhagalpur: A major fraud case has come to light in Bihar after two men were arrested for pretending to be the personal assistant of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The fraudsters had been calling Bhagalpur MP Ajay Kumar Mandal for several days and repeatedly demanding money. Their plan failed only because the MP stayed alert and informed the police at the right time.
According to reports, MP Ajay Mandal started receiving suspicious calls around a week ago. The caller introduced himself as Amit Shah’s personal assistant and pressured the MP to immediately transfer money for “urgent government work”. At first, the MP ignored the calls, thinking they were not serious. However, when the demands continued almost every day, he realised something was wrong and decided to report it.
The MP then contacted the Rangra police and told them everything. After hearing the details, the police asked him to help them set a trap to catch the criminals. Both agreed on a plan: the MP would pretend to cooperate with the caller and ask him to collect the money from a fixed place. This would help the police arrest the fraudsters while they came to receive the cash.
The plan worked exactly as expected. On Saturday at around 5 pm, the fraudster again called the MP and demanded money. The MP said he would hand over the money at Himanshu Petrol Pump on NH-31 in Navgachhiya. When the two accused reached the petrol pump, the police who were already present nearby captured them immediately. Both were arrested without any chance to escape.
The arrested men were identified as Rajkumar Pandey and Ravi Pandey. Both are residents of Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, they are part of a group that cheats people by pretending to be linked with important leaders and then demanding money. They purposely target officers, public representatives and influential people because they believe such individuals will not question calls that appear to come from powerful leaders.
After the arrest, MP Ajay Mandal submitted a written complaint to the Station House Officer of Rangra police station, explaining the entire case. The police are now investigating further. They have seized the mobile phones of the accused and are studying call details and bank transactions. Officers believe there may be more people linked to this gang and more victims who have been cheated.
People in the area are praising the MP and the police for acting quickly. Locals say that if Ajay Mandal had not informed the police on time, these fraudsters could have cheated many more people. The Rangra police station in-charge said that this arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on cyber fraud and impersonation scams and that strict action will continue.
