Bhagalpur: Waiting for a train at Bhagalpur railway station will soon be a much better experience. The Indian Railways is preparing to introduce several new facilities, including health checkups, massage centres and hair salons for passengers. The plan also includes mobile kiosks and food vans in the station’s circulating area. These changes are being made to give passengers a more comfortable and useful waiting time.
A special health ATM will be set up at the station, where passengers and railway staff will be able to get 16 types of health checkups done for a small fee. The process will be simple – an operator will enter the passenger’s name, age, phone number and email, and the test results will be sent to their phone or email within 10 minutes. Such health ATMs are already available at some major railway stations, and now Bhagalpur, Jamalpur and Malda stations will also get them.
The new plan will benefit more than 45,000 passengers who use Bhagalpur station every day. A salon will be opened on the platform, and a massage centre with electric massage chairs will be set up near the second-class waiting hall. This will allow passengers to relax and refresh themselves before or after a long journey. Railway employees working at the station will also be able to use these facilities, including haircut and shave services.
Railway officials have said that the process of setting up these services is moving quickly, although the rates and exact launch date are yet to be decided. If everything goes as planned, these facilities could be available after Durga Puja. “The Railway Board has already given instructions to start health ATMs, mobile kiosks, food vans, massage centres and salons. Soon passengers will be able to enjoy these new services at Bhagalpur station,” said Malda DCM Anjan.
