Saharsa: The historic Matsyagandha lake in Saharsa district of Bihar is about to get a new look. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for its beautification on 15 September during his visit to Purnia. The state government has already given administrative approval of Rs 98 crore 65 lakh for this large project.
Under this plan, several modern facilities will be built around the lake. A 400-metre-long ghat will be constructed so that people can visit and enjoy the lake comfortably. A special attraction will be a circular glass bridge that will allow visitors to walk over the water and enjoy beautiful views. A musical fountain and a parking area will also be created for the convenience and entertainment of visitors.
The project will also include an Abhivyakti Sthal, a cultural area that will display important events from the Mahabharata period. In addition, a souvenir shop and a martyr’s memorial will be built. A museum will be developed to preserve the history and culture linked to the lake.
This plan was approved by the central government in November last year under the Special Assistance Scheme. Once completed, the project is expected to open up new employment opportunities for local people. Handicraft shops, hotels, and transport services will grow in the area, giving work to thousands and boosting the local economy.
The government hopes that after the development, Matsyagandha lake will become a centre of religious faith and a popular tourist destination on the national level. The area around the lake is expected to gradually develop into a major attraction, drawing visitors from all over India.
