Rohtas: The blood-soaked body of Congress leader Veer Kamlesh Singh was discovered on Sunday morning near Karamdiha village in Nauhatta, Rohtas district, in what police are treating as a suspected murder.
Singh, 63, a resident of Tipa, had gone to Baijalpur late on Saturday evening carrying party pamphlets as part of his election campaigning. He was reportedly seen sitting near a culvert a short distance from the site of the incident around 7pm, but did not return home that night. His body was later found north of Karamdiha village, with his head submerged in water, a broken tooth, and blood pooling near his eyebrows.
Police were alerted and took custody of the body, sending it for a post-mortem examination. Vandana Mishra, SDPO 2, said that no comments could be made on the cause of death until the post-mortem report was completed.
Family members and local residents told officials that Singh had no known enemies. However, they noted he occasionally used drugs and sometimes failed to return home at night, and that his overnight campaigning had initially prevented concern when he did not come back on Saturday. The discovery of his body in the morning caused a commotion among relatives and villagers.
