Danapur: In yet another chilling incident highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar’s capital, a 20-year-old youth was brutally murdered with a sharp weapon in Danapur’s Hathiyakandh locality early Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Shivam alias Bunty, son of local resident Rakesh Singh.
The incident occurred near the victim’s residence under the Shahpur police station limits, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood. Locals woke up to chaos as news of the murder spread, triggering panic and outrage in the area.
Murder Sparks Public Outcry
The motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, and police officials remain tight-lipped as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, speculation is rife among residents regarding the reason behind Bunty’s murder.
With criminals executing yet another brazen crime in broad daylight, serious questions are being raised about the effectiveness of policing in Patna. This incident adds to a series of violent crimes in recent weeks that have dented public confidence in law enforcement.
Shooter Cell Initiative Under Spotlight
The murder comes just a day after Additional Director General (Headquarters & STF) Kundan Krishnan announced the formation of a ‘Shooter Cell’ under the Special Task Force (STF) to keep track of contract killers and sharpshooters operating in Bihar.
The ADG had mentioned that the new cell would create a comprehensive database of both new and known contract killers, tracking their identities, activities, and past criminal records. A dossier of these individuals will be distributed to all districts to assist local police units in proactive monitoring.
In light of recent high-profile killings — including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, advocate Jitendra Mehta, and a school operator in Danapur — the cell is also tasked with keeping a close watch on contract killers released from jail. Police stations have been instructed to intensify surveillance at the local level to prevent repeat offences.
