Patna: As Bihar steps up its push towards rooftop solar energy, 25,000 families who have installed solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana will receive additional financial assistance from the state government.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will transfer the state government’s assistance to eligible beneficiaries at a programme to be held at the Energy Auditorium on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister will also launch the Mukhyamantri Solar Protsahan Yojana, a state initiative aimed at encouraging more consumers to adopt rooftop solar systems.
Nine Solar Raths to Spread Awareness
During the programme, the Chief Minister will flag off nine Solar Raths to spread awareness about solar energy, its benefits and the use of rooftop solar systems.
The mobile awareness vehicles will help inform people about the advantages of solar power and the financial support available for installing rooftop systems.
Before the main programme, Chaudhary will inspect the Seva Setu Camp. After transferring the financial assistance, he will also interact with beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
Centre Provides Subsidy for Rooftop Solar Systems
Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the Central Government provides financial assistance based on the capacity of the rooftop solar system.
The central subsidy is Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW system and up to Rs 78,000 for a system of 3 kW or higher capacity.
The Bihar government is providing additional assistance on top of the central subsidy to further encourage rooftop solar adoption.
Bihar Adds Up to Rs 20,000 in Additional Assistance
Under the state government’s support mechanism, beneficiaries installing a 1.1 kW solar system will receive additional assistance of Rs 10,000.
For systems of up to 3 kW capacity, the state assistance can go up to Rs 20,000.
As a result, an eligible consumer installing a 3 kW rooftop solar system can receive total financial assistance of up to Rs 98,000, combining the central and state government support.
Push to Reduce Electricity Bills Through Solar Energy
The initiative is aimed at encouraging more households to shift towards clean and renewable energy.
By supporting rooftop solar installations, the government intends to increase the use of solar power among domestic consumers while helping households reduce their dependence on conventional electricity and lower their electricity bills.
The launch of the Mukhyamantri Solar Protsahan Yojana, along with the awareness campaign through nine Solar Raths, is expected to strengthen Bihar’s efforts to expand rooftop solar adoption across the state.
