Patna: Bihar’s next Panchayat elections will be held only after the completion of the delimitation process, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said on Monday.
Addressing a Gram Sansad programme in Patna, Choudhary said the State Election Commission is currently undertaking the delimitation of Gram Panchayats. The State Election Commission’s website also lists the 2026 Panchayat Delimitation process and related notifications for Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads.
Government To Seek Five-Year Growth Details
Choudhary said the government would also seek information from elected representatives of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system on economic growth in their respective areas over the past five years.
According to his remarks, Zila Parishad members, Block Pramukhs and Mukhiyas would be asked about growth at the district, block and Gram Panchayat levels.
Land Rights For Poor Families
The chief minister also said poor families who have been living on government land in villages for 20 to 40 years would be provided land entitlement documents, or parcha.
He said instructions had been issued to the Revenue and Land Reforms Department in this regard.
Choudhary also said the government has set a target of establishing at least 50 private universities in Bihar. He added that efforts were being made to create a system under which people from Bihar would not need to migrate to other states for manual labour after 2030.
Panchayat Delimitation In Progress
Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash has also previously stated that the three-tier Panchayat elections would be held after completion of the delimitation process. Reports from September said the delimitation exercise was in its final stage.
The State Election Commission has published notifications and documents relating to the 2026 Panchayat Delimitation process on its website.
Panchayat Buildings To Become ‘Mini-Secretariats’
Prakash also said Panchayat Sarkar Bhavans across Bihar are being developed as ‘mini-secretariats’.
The objective is to provide villagers with access to multiple government services at the Panchayat level under one roof. Officials associated with different services are also expected to be available at these centres alongside elected representatives.
The government has not yet announced a final election schedule in the information cited above. The election timetable will follow the completion of the delimitation process and subsequent action by the State Election Commission.
