Patna: Bihar has secured the top position in the country for outpatient department (OPD) registrations through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA)-based Scan and Share service, a development the state government has described as a major step towards digitising healthcare delivery.
According to official data, more than five crore digital OPD tokens have been generated in Bihar using the Scan and Share system, placing the state ahead of others in adopting the QR-based registration facility. The initiative allows patients to register for OPD services by scanning a QR code displayed at hospital entrances or OPD counters.
Health minister Mangal Pandey said the achievement marked a historic moment for the state’s health department in the field of digital healthcare. He said the new system had made OPD registration faster, simpler and more transparent for patients.
Under the Scan and Share facility, patients no longer need to stand in long queues to obtain OPD slips. By scanning a QR code, they receive a digital token number, which is then used to complete the registration process seamlessly.
Pandey said the broader aim of the initiative was to integrate healthcare services with digital technology. Through the ABHA platform, patients can access their health records on a mobile application, reducing the need to repeatedly carry physical documents.
Officials said the system has also eased the administrative burden on hospitals and doctors by streamlining patient flow and improving access to medical records. The government believes the growing use of Scan and Share will help strengthen efficiency and accountability in public healthcare facilities across the state.
