Bhagalpur: Bihar is taking a significant step towards modernising its healthcare services with the introduction of artificial intelligence-based blood testing technology in government hospitals.
The new system, which is in its final stages of implementation, is expected to make diagnostic processes faster, more efficient and more accurate for patients.
According to officials, the AI-enabled setup will rely on advanced machines capable of processing hundreds of samples per hour, significantly reducing waiting times for test results. The technology is designed to handle large volumes of samples with minimal delay, addressing one of the key challenges in public healthcare facilities.
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital (Mayaganj) in Bhagalpur is set to become the first hospital in the state to implement the AI-based pathology testing system. Under the new framework, each patient will be assigned a unique test identification number, allowing easy access to their medical records and test results.
The entire testing process will be digitised. Once a sample is collected, it will be immediately logged into the system, after which all stages of analysis will be conducted digitally. Patients will receive their reports via text message as soon as they are ready, removing the need for repeated visits to the hospital.
Officials said the system is expected to reduce delays and improve the accuracy of reports. Doctors will also be able to access patient data online, enabling quicker diagnosis and treatment decisions.
In cases requiring urgent attention, patients can be directly referred to outpatient or emergency departments based on their digital reports.
Authorities believe the initiative will benefit patients in Bhagalpur and neighbouring districts, while also serving as a model for expanding AI-driven healthcare services across the state.
