Patna: Panic briefly gripped Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport on Friday after three cartridges were recovered from a passenger’s bag during a routine security check, officials said.
Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force detained the passenger immediately after the suspicious items were detected during baggage screening.
The individual has been identified as Mohsin Ali Masumi, a resident of Phulwarisharif in Patna. He was scheduled to board a 10:30am Air India flight to Delhi at the time of the incident.
Security officials said the cartridges were discovered after CISF personnel flagged a suspicious object in the bag during scanning. The matter was promptly reported to the airport police.
A police team reached the spot, took the passenger into custody and began questioning him. According to officials, the man claimed he was unaware of how the cartridges came to be in his bag, a statement investigators are treating with caution.
Police said they are examining all angles, including whether the incident was a case of negligence or linked to a broader security concern.
Following the incident, security measures at the airport have been further tightened as authorities continue their investigation.
