Patna: More than 45 lakh animals were treated across Bihar in the financial year 2024-25, marking a significant achievement for the state’s Animal and Fisheries Resources Department. According to data up to January 2025, government facilities provided medical care to 45.70 lakh animals. Additionally, 1,54,000 animals were castrated, 27,262 samples underwent pathological examination, and 36.90 lakh animals were artificially inseminated during this period.
The department operated 58 ambulatory vans and 534 mobile veterinary units, organising 3,167 veterinary camps that treated 4.18 lakh animals and examined 5,712 samples. These efforts have helped reach livestock farmers in remote areas, providing doorstep veterinary services.
Vaccination efforts have also expanded remarkably, with about 7 crore animals vaccinated in 2024-25. In comparison, only 24.96 lakh animals received medical facilities in 2006-07, and artificial insemination procedures have increased from 2.38 lakh to over 44 lakh during this period.
The state has strengthened veterinary infrastructure significantly over the last two decades. In 2005, Bihar had just 814 veterinary hospitals; this number has now grown to 1,135, with 24×7 medical services available at hospitals located in district headquarters. The addition of ambulatory vans and mobile units has ensured that veterinary care is accessible in every village, underlining the Bihar government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of livestock farmers across the state.
