Motihari: Bihar-based artist Madhurendra Kumar has paid tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar through an unusual piece of miniature art, creating the actor’s portrait on a green peepal leaf measuring around three centimetres.
Known for his sand art, Madhurendra spent nearly three hours crafting the tiny portrait. He also inscribed the message “Alvida Krantiveer Nana Patekar” on the leaf, recalling one of the actor’s best-known films.
The artwork combines intricate detailing with a personal tribute to the actor’s cinematic legacy.
Three Hours of Work on a Three-Centimetre Leaf
Instead of using sand or a conventional canvas, Madhurendra chose a small peepal leaf as his medium.
Creating a recognisable face on such a limited surface requires precision, patience and concentration. The artist worked for around three hours to bring out Nana Patekar’s likeness and facial expressions.
The miniature portrait demonstrates Madhurendra’s ability to work with natural materials and produce detailed artwork on an unusually small scale.
‘Alvida Krantiveer’ Recalls Nana Patekar’s Iconic Role
The message on the leaf refers to Krantiveer, the 1994 Hindi film in which Nana Patekar delivered one of his most memorable performances.
The actor built a distinctive reputation in Hindi and Marathi cinema through his intense performances, powerful dialogue delivery and ability to portray complex characters. His work in films such as Krantiveer, Parinda and Agni Sakshi earned him widespread recognition.
By including the film’s name in the inscription, Madhurendra connected his tribute to a role that remains closely associated with the actor’s screen legacy.
Artist Known for Working With Natural Materials
Madhurendra Kumar is known for creating artworks using unconventional surfaces and natural materials. His latest work uses a peepal leaf as a miniature canvas, demonstrating the scope for artistic expression beyond traditional mediums.
The portrait is both a display of fine-detail craftsmanship and a personal gesture of appreciation for the actor’s contribution to cinema.
For admirers of Nana Patekar, the tiny artwork offers a reminder that a tribute does not need a large canvas to convey respect. Its small size contrasts with the enduring impression the actor has made on audiences through his performances.
