Patna: Shubham Kumar of Gaya has been celebrated in the Bihar Assembly after securing a perfect 100 percentile in the JEE Main 2026 examination, becoming the state topper and achieving third rank nationally.
During a special motion in the Assembly, Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar described Shubham’s accomplishment as “a matter of pride for Bihar,” prompting legislators to applaud and thump the tables in recognition.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary expressed his admiration for the young achiever, calling the success “an inspiration for the entire state” and congratulating the MLAs of Gaya district. He added that Shubham’s performance exemplifies the growing national presence of Bihar students in competitive examinations.
Shubham, the son of Shivkumar, a hardware shop owner, and Kanchan Devi, a homemaker, hails from Nadarganj Brahmani Ghat in Gaya city. Despite coming from a modest family, he dedicated himself to rigorous preparation, studying 10–12 hours daily after completing his schooling—10th from Nazareth Academy and 12th from British English School—and later training in Kota.
Adding to the family’s academic achievements, Shubham’s elder sister is a first-year student at IIT Patna. Shubham credited his success to his parents, teachers, and disciplined study habits.
The Assembly’s recognition has amplified the sense of pride in Gaya and across Bihar, celebrating not only his individual achievement but also the potential of students from the state on the national stage.
