Patna: Political tensions in Patna escalated on Tuesday as the Patna Municipal Corporation removed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) flags from the city’s Income Tax Roundabout ahead of a major party event. The move sparked protests among RJD workers and intensified political debates in the state capital.
Leader of the Opposition and RJD working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had called on party leaders and workers from across Bihar to assemble in Patna to mark the death anniversary of socialist leader Karpoori Thakur. The event, scheduled at the Bapu Auditorium, is expected to draw large crowds, with the city streets adorned with banners, posters, and flags ahead of the gathering.
The removal of flags from prominent intersections such as the Income Tax Roundabout drew sharp criticism from party members, who described the action as an attempt to curb political visibility in the run-up to the event.
According to party sources, the gathering during the state’s budget session is politically significant, providing an opportunity for Tejashwi Yadav to address workers from all districts and deliver key organisational messages. The event aims both to commemorate Thakur’s legacy and to consolidate the party’s base ahead of upcoming political contests.
