Patna: The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly commences today, July 21, and is scheduled to run until July 25. As this marks the last session before the upcoming assembly elections, a tumultuous and eventful period is widely anticipated.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar arrived for the session and was welcomed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Chaudhary, Minister Shravan Kumar, and the Assembly Secretary.
Dozen Bills on the Agenda, Focus on Youth Employment
According to information obtained, the Nitish government plans to introduce a dozen bills during this monsoon session. Of these, four are original bills, while eight are amendment bills. Once passed by both the Bihar Legislative Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council, these bills are expected to be swiftly implemented as law in the state. More than half a dozen of these bills are deemed highly significant for various sections of society, including youth, the unemployed, workers, and farmers.
State bills are slated for introduction in the Bihar Legislature on July 22 and 23. The government will present four bills from the Labor Resources Department, three from the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, and one each from the Finance, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Urban Development and Housing, Law, and Commercial Tax departments.
Among the 12 bills, the most crucial is the Jannayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University Bill 2025. This bill aims to establish the state’s first skill university, thereby paving the way for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ambitious announcement of providing employment to 1 crore youth in Bihar.
Government Ready to Face Opposition
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary expressed the government’s readiness for the session, stating, “We will all go to the public court with the memories of this session. Every party is expected to raise issues under the process of the legislature. Every issue will be answered. A dozen bills will be introduced.”
The last assembly proceedings took place during the budget session in February and March. Since then, Bihar has witnessed a continuous rise in criminal incidents, and the Election Commission has initiated voter revision work. The opposition, comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, is poised to corner the government on these critical issues, particularly law and order, during the monsoon session. The coming days are expected to see heated debates and intense political exchanges.
