Patna: In a unique initiative to reward sporting excellence, Bihar is offering government jobs to athletes who have achieved distinction in national and international competitions. The “Medal Lao, Naukri Pao” scheme, run by theGovernment Jobs to Top Athletes Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), has invited applications from outstanding athletes, with trials scheduled from February 21 to 24.
A total of 26 athletes from archery, table tennis, hockey, badminton, athletics, wrestling, wushu, judo, and taekwondo have been shortlisted for the first round of assessments. Further reviews are expected to include additional sports and candidates. Participants must bring all required documentation to the trial venues.
BSSA Director General Ravindran Shankaran stressed that selection for government employment will depend entirely on performance during the trials. “Athletes should not assume that their job is guaranteed; the recruitment committee will make final decisions based on merit,” he said.
The initiative operates under the Bihar Outstanding Athletes Direct Recruitment Rules, 2023, which allow athletes who have won medals at national or international levels to be appointed directly to government positions, bypassing standard exams and interviews. Successful candidates may be placed in various state government departments, providing a pathway from the sports field to public service.
