Patna: Bank customers in Bihar may face disruptions in branch-based services for five consecutive days from September 26 to 30.
The state has around 7,000 bank branches, where regular branch operations are expected to be affected during this period.
The five-day closure will include the fourth Saturday and Sunday, followed by a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.
Why Are Banks Closing From September 26?
Banks will remain closed on September 26 as it falls on the fourth Saturday of the month.
The following day, September 27, is Sunday, which is a regular bank holiday.
The closures will then continue on September 28, 29 and 30 because of the proposed nationwide bank strike.
Customers have therefore been advised to complete important branch-related work by September 25.
Three-Day Nationwide Bank Strike
According to the report, discussions between the United Forum of Bank Unions and bank management on Tuesday did not reach a conclusion.
The proposed strike from September 28 to 30 is expected to involve employees of public sector banks, cooperative banks and regional rural banks, along with employees of some private banks, according to the report.
The strike could affect regular banking operations at branches during the three days.
Digital Banking Services To Remain Available
Even if bank branches remain closed during the strike, customers may continue to use available digital banking services for several transactions.
Electronic payment facilities such as IMPS, NEFT, UPI and RTGS are expected to remain available, subject to service availability.
Customers in rural areas may also use digital service centres for banking-related services where available.
Customers Advised To Plan Banking Work
With the possibility of five consecutive days of branch closures, customers have been advised to complete essential banking work before September 26.
Those who need services that require a physical visit to a bank branch may consider completing them by September 25 to avoid potential disruption during the closure period.
