Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar carried out major raids on Friday morning and uncovered a large amount of illegal wealth linked to Bhavesh Kumar Singh, a Development Officer at Patna’s Pataliputra Central Co-operative Bank. Officers searched several locations in Patna and Gopalganj and found that Singh had secretly purchased petrol pumps, a rice mill, land worth crores, and expensive cars. Around Rs 15 lakh was found deposited across eight bank accounts, many of which had seen unusually large transactions. The searches continued until late at night as more documents were recovered.
According to EOU officials, Singh tried to hide his wealth by buying property in the names of his relatives. In Bela, Bihta, he purchased the Jai Mata Di Rice Mill and put a relative in charge of its operations. In Majhagarh, Gopalganj, he opened a petrol pump using his daughter Bhavana’s name, while his brother Rajesh Kumar was made the operator. Investigators also found an account named RM Enterprises in the co-operative bank where Singh works. This account, opened under the name of a relative, recorded transactions worth Rs 12 crore to Rs 15 crore in 2025 alone.
Several luxury vehicles were also discovered, including two Hyundai Cretas and a Mahindra Scorpio. Officials have begun freezing bank accounts linked to Singh. One of the major discoveries was a five-storey house built on hillside land in Patna, believed to be worth a large amount. The EOU also found that Singh had purchased 41 decimals of land near his ancestral village, Jalalpur, in Gopalganj. Documents connected to life insurance policies and jewellery bought in the names of Singh and his wife were taken for checking.
An FIR has been filed at the EOU police station, accusing Singh of owning assets far more than his legal income allows. Officials believe the actual value of his wealth will rise as the investigation continues. Raids were carried out at six locations: Singh’s flat in Ramjaypal Nagar, his five-storey building in Zakariyarpur, the rice mill in Bela, the co-operative bank office on SP Verma Road, his ancestral home in Jalalpur, and the Bhavna Petrol Pump in Gopalganj. The EOU is still examining documents and expects more revelations in the coming days.
