Patna: Banks across Bihar will remain closed for four consecutive days from January 24 to 27, officials have confirmed, prompting warnings for customers to complete essential transactions in advance.
The closure will begin on January 24, followed by the regular Sunday holiday on January 25. Republic Day on January 26 will see all banks closed for the national holiday, and a nationwide strike by bank employees on January 27 will extend the shutdown into the following Tuesday.
Bank unions have announced the strike in protest against long-standing demands, including the implementation of a five-day work week. The action is expected to affect both government and private banks, with all branches likely to remain closed.
The strike is anticipated to cause significant inconvenience to the public. In recent weeks, bank employees in cities including Patna and Motihari have conducted campaigns seeking support for the nationwide strike. Authorities have urged residents to complete any urgent banking transactions by January 23, to avoid disruption.
