Patna: The Bihar government has launched two new luxury caravans as part of its efforts to strengthen the state’s tourism sector and improve travel facilities for visitors. The caravans were flagged off on Friday, morning from the Sikh Heritage Building on Daroga Rai Path in Patna.

The inauguration was led by Bihar Tourism Minister, Arun Shankar Prasad, alongside Tourism Secretary Nilesh Ramchandra Deore and senior officials of the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC). Speaking at the event, the minister said the state was working on several ambitious projects to promote tourism and enhance visitor experiences.
The two caravans, purchased at a combined cost of around Rs 2.18 crore, are designed to provide what officials described as “world-class” amenities. Each vehicle can seat eight people and includes four sleeper beds, making it suitable for travel by two families. Built on a BharatBenz chassis, the caravans are equipped with revolving chairs, a sofa, a bathroom, a kitchen, televisions, a generator for camping and a canopy.
Safety and comfort have been key considerations, officials said. Each caravan includes CCTV cameras and an SOS button, while sleeper beds are fitted with individual reading lights and TVs. According to the tourism department, the vehicles are intended to support longer, flexible journeys across Bihar and other parts of the country.
BSTDC managing director Nandkishor said the caravans would be available at a rate of Rs 75 per kilometre, with a minimum daily distance of 250 kilometres, plus 5% GST. Bookings can be made at the corporation’s office at the Sikh Heritage Building, the Kautilya Vihar counter, or via a dedicated mobile number 8544418209.
