Patna: Bihar government has transferred 97 Block Development Officers (BDOs) across the state in one of the latest administrative reshuffles undertaken by the Rural Development Department. The transfer order, issued on Tuesday night, assigns officers to new blocks across several districts with immediate effect.
The department said the transfers were made on administrative grounds to improve governance, strengthen monitoring of development schemes and ensure greater accountability in rural administration. All transferred officers have been directed to assume charge at their new places of posting within the prescribed timeframe.
Administrative Reshuffle Across Bihar
The latest exercise forms part of a wider administrative restructuring underway in Bihar. In recent weeks, the state government has carried out transfers across several departments, including Industries, Education, Health and Revenue.
Officials said blocks where officers had been serving for extended periods have received new appointments, while several experienced officers have been assigned fresh responsibilities based on administrative requirements.
Patna district has also been included in the reshuffle. Seema Kumari has been appointed as the new Block Development Officer of Patna Sadar block.
Government Aims to Improve Rural Governance
According to the Rural Development Department, the transfers are intended to accelerate the implementation of government welfare and development schemes while improving transparency and administrative efficiency at the block level.
Block Development Officers play a central role in executing rural development programmes, coordinating Panchayat-level administration and monitoring government schemes. The large-scale reshuffle is expected to influence the implementation and supervision of projects across rural Bihar.
Officials maintained that the transfers were made solely on administrative necessity and have instructed officers to join their new postings promptly to avoid disruption to development work.
Part of a Broader Reform Drive
The BDO transfers follow a series of recent administrative changes by the Bihar government. Last month, the state transferred several Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, including District Magistrates, departmental secretaries and other senior officials.
The Industries Department has also transferred Industry Extension Officers across all 38 districts, while other departments have undertaken similar personnel changes.
Administrative observers view the latest BDO reshuffle as part of the government’s broader effort to improve service delivery, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and enhance the effectiveness of rural governance.
