Patna: The Bihar government has announced an ambitious plan to train around one million young people in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies as part of a broader strategy to boost employment and entrepreneurship across the state.
The initiative will be implemented through the state’s Startup Policy and the AI Pragya programme. According to the Information Technology Department, the programme aims to equip young people with industry-relevant digital skills while expanding Bihar’s startup ecosystem.
Startup Hubs Planned Across Six Cities
Information Technology Minister Nitish Mishra has directed officials to accelerate startup development in Patna, Darbhanga, Gayaji, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Purnia.
The government plans to develop these cities as regional centres for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, with the objective of creating employment opportunities closer to where young people live.
More Than 100 Incubators Proposed
To support aspiring entrepreneurs, the Information Technology Department has proposed establishing more than 100 startup incubators across the state.
These centres are expected to provide mentorship, technical guidance, infrastructure and access to expert support, enabling entrepreneurs to develop and scale technology-based ventures.
AI Mission To Focus On Infrastructure And Investment
The government is also preparing a wider technology network under the proposed Bihar AI Mission. Officials plan to attract investment, develop supercomputing infrastructure and secure financial support for the initiative. The state also intends to collaborate with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to strengthen research and technical capabilities.
In addition, around 200 units of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) are proposed to be activated across Bihar to support the state’s digital ecosystem.
Microsoft And Google To Support Skill Development
The government is working towards partnerships with global technology companies, including Microsoft and Google, to provide training in emerging technologies.
The proposed training programmes will focus on artificial intelligence, data analytics and other advanced digital skills aimed at improving the employability of young people and preparing them for future job markets.
AI Labs Planned in 49 ITIs
As part of the initiative, the government plans to establish AI laboratories in 49 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Bihar.
The labs will provide students with practical training in artificial intelligence, data analytics and other advanced digital technologies, complementing classroom instruction with hands-on learning.
Focus On Innovation-Led Growth
The proposed measures form part of the Bihar government’s broader effort to build an innovation-driven economy by combining skill development, startup support and digital infrastructure. Officials say the initiatives are intended to create new pathways for employment while encouraging entrepreneurship among the state’s youth.
