Bhagalpur: In a brazen daylight assault on Friday morning, BJP leader Vivekanand Prasad, also known as Bablu Yadav, was shot at by the notorious criminal Suraj Tanti and his associates outside his residence near Tilkamanjhi Chowk, police reported.
The attack occurred around 8 am when Tanti, accompanied by four accomplices, forced entry into Yadav’s home on TNB Law College Road. Witnesses said the gang verbally abused the politician and his family, blaming them for not supporting a personal dispute with a local vendor.
According to eyewitnesses, when Prasad and his brother stepped outside, one of Tanti’s men struck Prasad in the face with a fist before firing at him. One bullet grazed the upper part of his head, narrowly missing fatal injury, while a second struck a nearby wall.
The sudden gunfire caused panic among pedestrians, who fled in all directions, and local residents rushed onto rooftops, shouting for help. The attackers fled the scene before police could arrive.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for Suraj Tanti and his accomplices, emphasizing the urgency to prevent political violence in the lead-up to the Bihar Assembly elections.
Police appealed to citizens for any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects. The motive behind the attack appears linked to personal vendettas, but investigators are probing possible political ramifications.
