Bodhgaya: Bodhgaya, one of the world’s most sacred Buddhist destinations, is preparing to welcome a new luxury offering as ITC Hotels expands its presence in the town. The forthcoming Welcomhotel Bodhgaya promises to blend the region’s spiritual calm with high-end hospitality, a move that reflects the growing demand for premium stays in pilgrimage centres.
Spread across 18 acres, the hotel will feature 98 rooms designed to mirror the town’s serene ethos while offering modern comforts. Beyond its tranquil retreat-like accommodation, the property is being positioned as a hub for large gatherings, with two auditoriums seating 2,000 and 500 guests — spaces that could host everything from international Buddhist conferences to cultural festivals and corporate summits.

In May, ITC Hotels Limited (ITCHL) announced the signing of a new Welcomhotel in Bodhgaya in partnership with Kumar Infratrade Enterprises Private Limited. For travellers, the addition signals Bodhgaya’s transformation from a largely spiritual waypoint to a destination that caters to both seekers of enlightenment and luxury tourists. The Mahabodhi Mahavihara, a UNESCO World Heritage site marking the Bodhi Tree where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, already draws millions of devotees each year.

With the entry of Welcomhotel — joining the likes of Hyatt Place and Marasa Sarovar Premiere — Bodhgaya is fast emerging as a crossroads where heritage, spirituality and modern tourism converge. For pilgrims, it means better facilities; for travellers, a new stop on India’s luxury tourism circuit; and for Bodhgaya, a growing profile on the global map.
