Muzaffarpur: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) formally entered its 75th year on Friday, with the vice-chancellor announcing a year-long “Academic Celebration” aimed at repositioning the institution as a leading national — and eventually global — knowledge centre by its Platinum Jubilee in 2027.
Presiding over the university’s 74th Foundation Day, Dinesh Chandra Rai said the coming year would prioritise high-impact research, administrative efficiency and measurable academic outcomes over ceremonial display. “It is a matter of profound pride for all of us to be associated with this historic university as it touches the 75-year mark,” he said, adding that the focus would remain “squarely on excellence”.
While noting improvements in research output, Rai acknowledged that the university’s PhD processes required closer scrutiny to safeguard standards. He said NET and JRF scholars would be prioritised to strengthen the research ecosystem and cultivate “elite scholarship”.
The vice-chancellor also praised the conduct and timely declaration of results for the PhD Admission Tests (PAT) 2023 and 2024, holding them up as examples of the administrative renewal the university hopes to institutionalise.
Securing a higher NAAC accreditation and improving the university’s NIRF ranking were described as non-negotiable goals. Rai, however, warned against what he called a “culture of extravagance”, urging departments to redirect spending from celebratory events to core academic infrastructure and research outputs. “Our success will not be measured by the scale of our celebrations, but by the tangible outcomes of our research,” he said.
As part of a “Roadmap to 75”, the university plans to activate memoranda of understanding already signed with national and international institutions, including the organisation of international symposiums and collaborative programmes.
The event was attended by faculty members and senior university officials, including the proctor Prof BS Rai, DSW Prof Alok Pratap, examination controller Prof Ram Kumar, IQAC head Prof Navrdul Haque, and several senior academics and administrators.
