Bihar: A wedding in Bettiah, descended into chaos when the bride refused to marry after discovering that the groom was visually impaired. The incident occurred during the varmala ceremony in Banbairiya village, under the jurisdiction of Sahodra police station.
According to reports, the groom, a Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teacher posted in Bettiah, arrived with his wedding procession from Baitapur village, under Shikarpur police station. Preparations for the ceremony were complete, and the bride’s family had set up the stage to welcome the guests. However, the bride became enraged upon noticing the groom’s visual impairment and refused to continue the ceremony on stage.
The refusal sparked a confrontation between the families, prompting police intervention. Officers arrived at the scene, diffused tensions, and ensured the wedding procession returned without the marriage being conducted. No formal complaint has been filed by either party, but the incident has become a topic of widespread discussion in the village.
