Patna: Bihar’s government has unveiled its budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year, earmarking Rs 3,47,589 crore for state development—a rise of over Rs 30,000 crore from last year’s Rs 3.16 lakh crore. Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav presented the budget in the Legislative Assembly, highlighting infrastructure and transport as key priorities.
Among the headline initiatives is the construction of five new expressways designed to link major cities and industrial hubs across the state. Officials say the new routes will not only shorten travel times but also encourage trade, investment, and employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to Bihar’s economy.
In addition, the government announced plans to convert all single-lane roads into double lanes in a phased manner. The move aims to improve road safety, ease traffic congestion, and enhance connectivity to remote and rural areas. “Our focus is on connecting every district and block with better roads,” the Finance Minister said.
During his 12-minute speech, Yadav emphasised Bihar’s rapid progress under the principles of knowledge, integrity, science, aspirations, and respect. He also cited an estimated economic growth rate of 14.9% for 2025–26, signalling confidence in the state’s development trajectory.
The budget reflects Bihar’s continued push to strengthen infrastructure while fostering economic growth, particularly through improvements in the state’s transport network.
