Supaul: Thirty children fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal at Middle School, Kathara Khatbe Tola, in Supaul district on Wednesday, sparking alarm among parents and school authorities. The incident reportedly began when a lizard was spotted in one child’s plate, prompting the school principal, Rajiv Kumar Raman, to immediately discard the meal.
Soon after, several students started feeling unwell and were rushed to the Chhatapur Community Health Center, where a team of doctors treated them. Dr Sushmita Kumari confirmed that while 30 children were affected, five were referred to higher care due to the severity of their symptoms. She added that all the children are now out of danger and are being kept in hospital as a precaution before being discharged.
Officials, including Chhatapur BDO Dr Rakesh Gupta and in-charge BEO Desh Kumar, visited the hospital to gather information from the children and assess the situation. They announced that a thorough investigation would be conducted into the incident and that action would be taken against those responsible.
