Patna: The Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on Thursday flagged off 34 mobile forensic vans aimed at accelerating evidence collection and improving the quality of criminal investigations across the state.
The vehicles were launched from 1 Anne Marg in Patna, where Kumar inspected the vans and reviewed the facilities and equipment installed in them. According to the state government, the vans are fitted with modern forensic tools that will allow investigators to begin examinations immediately at crime scenes.

Speaking at the event, CM Nitish said the initiative was part of the government’s broader focus on strengthening law and order since 2005, including a policy of zero tolerance towards crime and corruption. He said delays in sending samples from crime scenes to forensic laboratories had often slowed investigations and caused distress to victims’ families. The new mobile units, he added, would enable on-the-spot forensic work, reducing delays and improving efficiency.

Senior members of the state government and police leadership were present at the launch, including deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, water resources and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, the director general of police, Vinay Kumar, and several senior officials from the home department and the police’s crime investigation and modernisation wings.
The government said the mobile forensic vans would be deployed across districts to support police teams during the early stages of investigations, a move it hopes will lead to faster case resolution and stronger prosecution outcomes.
