Patna: Bihar politics is poised for a major shift as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to resign on November 19 following a key cabinet meeting on Monday. The state government approved a proposal to dissolve the current assembly, paving the way for the formation of a new government under evolving political circumstances.
According to sources, Monday’s cabinet meeting was brief but decisive. With formal approval from all ministers, the decision to dissolve the assembly was forwarded to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. CM Nitish then proceeded to Raj Bhavan to submit the cabinet’s resolution along with a detailed briefing on the political situation.
Government officials said the current assembly’s term will officially end on November 19, though CM Nitish will continue to handle routine administrative work until then. The period leading up to the resignation is expected to be crucial as preparations for the structure and leadership of the next government take shape.
The meeting with the governor is also viewed as part of a broader political strategy. Reliable sources confirmed that the governor has accepted the cabinet’s proposal and report, with further constitutional procedures scheduled for November 19.
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) has intensified internal discussions, summoning senior leaders to Patna to prepare for the changing political landscape. Activities within the BJP and other parties have similarly picked up pace, signalling that November 19 could mark a significant realignment in Bihar politics.
Nitish Kumar, known for his calculated and timely political moves, has once again demonstrated his strategic approach. Observers are now focused on the composition of the next cabinet and the direction in which the state’s politics will move following his resignation.
