Patna: A major internal conflict has erupted within the Bihar Congress ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, with several leaders accusing state in-charge Krishna Allavaru of corruption in ticket distribution.
The disgruntled leaders, denied party tickets, have announced a protest and hunger strike at the Congress state headquarters, Sadakat Ashram, on Thursday. The decision followed a closed-door meeting of upset members in Patna on Wednesday.
Anand Madhav, an AICC member who attended the meeting, said the protest was aimed at “saving the Congress party” from internal decay. “Tickets have been distributed for money. This is a betrayal of party values,” Madhav alleged.
Former MLA Gajanand Shahi from Barbigha in Sheikhpura district, who narrowly lost the 2020 Assembly election by 113 votes, said he was unfairly denied a ticket this year. He urged Rahul Gandhi to intervene and demanded Allavaru’s immediate removal.
The dissenting faction — including leaders Chhatrapati Yadav, Nagendra Prasad Vikal, Ranjan Singh, Bachchu Singh, Rajkumar Rajan, and Bunty Chaudhary — accused Allavaru and state Congress president Rajesh Ram of misleading the party’s central leadership. They alleged the two were prioritising “money power and personal interests” over merit and weakening Rahul Gandhi’s position in Bihar.
