Patna: In a major step towards providing financial security, the Bihar State Co-operative Bank Ltd (BSCB) has signed an agreement with SBI General Insurance Company Ltd (SBI GIC). The agreement was signed in Patna on Tuesday in the presence of Bihar’s Cooperative Minister, Dr Prem Kumar. With this partnership, customers of the bank will now be able to access both banking and insurance services at the same branch.

According to officials, this initiative will allow customers to take advantage of health, accident, agriculture and other general insurance schemes along with their regular banking facilities. The scheme has been described as a “safety shield” for families, farmers, small traders and common citizens. Authorities said the move will not only help people protect themselves from risks but will also strengthen the trust and relationship between the bank and its customers.

Speaking at the event, Dr Prem Kumar said the agreement was a historic step for the cooperative banking sector in Bihar. He explained that insurance services will now be available to ordinary people in a simple and transparent way, without the need to approach different institutions. “This is a milestone in providing financial security to citizens and in strengthening the rural economy. Our goal is that every person should get banking and insurance services under one roof,” he said.

The event was attended by several senior officials, including BSCB chairman Ramesh Chandra Choubey, Cooperative Department secretary Dharmendra Singh, Registrar of Cooperative Societies Anshul Agarwal and Managing Director of BSCB Manoj Kumar Singh. From SBI General Insurance, Executive Vice President Priya Kumar and Head of Rural, Agriculture and Micro Insurance Piyush Kumar Singh were present. Presidents of cooperative banks from Gopalganj, Patliputra and Vaishali also joined the programme.

Officials said the Bihar State Co-operative Bank has always worked for the benefit of farmers, employees, small businesses and people in rural areas. This tie-up with SBI General Insurance is seen as a big step towards improving financial services in the state. It is expected that the partnership will bring positive changes in the lives of millions of customers by providing them with greater security and stability.
