Patna: Bihar’s economy has shown strong growth in the last year, rising from Rs 4.89 lakh crore to Rs 5.31 lakh crore. The state’s growth rate has been recorded at 8.64%, which officials say reflects not only the strength of agriculture but also rapid progress in construction, manufacturing, services, transport and communication. The government has described this rise as an important step towards making Bihar self-reliant.
The construction and manufacturing sectors have grown by 11%, while the service sector has expanded by 8.9%. Transport and communication have seen the highest growth at 13%. At the same time, the government has managed to bring down the fiscal deficit from 6.2% to 2.9%, which shows improved financial discipline. Recent investment conferences have also attracted proposals worth Rs 2.3 lakh crore, opening new opportunities for industries and employment in the state.
The government has introduced new policies to create jobs for young people, especially in the IT and Ethanol industries. Thousands of youths are already getting work through these initiatives. To encourage big investors, the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Package 2025 has been launched. Under this scheme, any entrepreneur who invests more than Rs 100 crore and creates at least 1,000 jobs will be given 10 acres of land free of cost.
Alongside industries, women’s empowerment is also being prioritised. The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana promises to support one woman from each family with Rs 10,000 to start a small business. Depending on the progress of the venture, she can later receive up to Rs 2 lakh in additional assistance. Officials said the scheme will help women become financially independent and add strength to Bihar’s economy.
Agriculture remains one of Bihar’s strong points. The state is ranked first in the country for the production of maize, makhana, litchi, ladyfinger and mushrooms. Sixteen products, including Shahi litchi, Bhagalpuri silk and Mithila makhana, have been granted the GI tag, which has helped farmers increase their income and given Bihar’s produce recognition in global markets. The government has committed itself to building on these successes and making Bihar a self-reliant and prosperous state by 2047.
