Patna: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has defended his party’s decision to get women to fill out forms for the Mai-Behan Maan Yojana, saying it is not unlawful despite alleged threats to party workers from authorities.
Speaking in Patna on Tuesday, Tejashwi said that party workers helping women complete the forms were being intimidated with the threat of jail. “We are a political party. If this is illegal, the government should issue it to us in writing,” he said.
Tejashwi warned that his party would take legal action against officials involved in harassment, urging his supporters to remain firm. “We will not be afraid of threats. We will drag those officers to court,” he added.
He also welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on making Aadhaar mandatory in the voter list, describing it as a “victory of the opposition”. On the vice-presidential election, Tejashwi said that his party had presented its stance strongly, while raising questions over the whereabouts of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
