Bhojpur: A man and his wife were found dead inside their home in Farhangpur village on Friday morning, in what police suspect to be a murder–suicide linked to a family dispute.
Police identified the deceased as Rajesh Kumar (35) and Soni Devi (26). Officers said Rajesh was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the room, while Soni Devi’s body lay on the floor beneath the bed with a deep cut mark on her neck.
Local residents discovered the bodies and immediately alerted police. A team from Chandi police station arrived on the spot, followed shortly by an FSL unit. Both bodies have been sent for postmortem.
According to investigators, preliminary findings indicate that Rajesh first slit his wife’s throat with a sharp weapon and then took his own life.
Sadar SDPO-2 Ranjit Kumar Singh, who inspected the scene, said early evidence points to “a likely incident of domestic conflict that escalated into violence”.
Wife had returned home to vote
Police said Soni had been living in a rented house in Bihta for the past two months while working at a local factory. She reportedly travelled to Farhangpur on Thursday to cast her vote in the Bihar assembly elections.
Rajesh, who worked in Gujarat, had returned to the village around two months earlier. The reason behind the alleged attack remains unclear, officers said, adding that they are questioning relatives for more details.
The investigation is ongoing.
