Patna: The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, is set to host the 3rd Academy of Pain Physiatrists (APP) Workshop on Chronic Pain on November 8–9, focusing on mastering Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) — a cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatment for long-term pain relief.
Organized jointly by the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) and Anatomy in collaboration with the Academy of Pain Physiatrists (APP), the two-day event will include live case demonstrations, ultrasound (USG)-guided sessions, fluoroscopic/C-arm training, and cadaveric hands-on practice.
RFA is an advanced medical technique that targets specific genicular or articular nerves responsible for transmitting pain signals in patients suffering from shoulder, knee, or spinal pain. It has proven particularly effective for conditions such as facet joint arthritis and osteoarthritis, offering patients sustained relief without the need for major surgery.
The workshop will feature a distinguished faculty lineup, including Dr. Naman Goel (USA), Dr. Nimish Mittal (Canada), and leading experts from AIIMS, Medanta, and other premier Indian institutions. The sessions will cover RFA applications for shoulder, knee, lumbar/spine, and facial pain.
Dr. Raj Kumar, Organizing Secretary and Head of the PMR Department, IGIMS, said, “We are delighted to host this academic event, which brings together top experts and enthusiastic learners from across India.”
Dr. Manish Mandal, Medical Superintendent, IGIMS, added that the hands-on workshop aims to enhance clinical excellence in chronic pain and arthritis management through evidence-based, image-guided interventions, noting that the PMR department has been instrumental in treating patients with advanced joint disorders.
Dr. Binde Kumar, Director, IGIMS, described the upcoming event as “a landmark academic workshop that will equip participants with the latest interventional pain techniques for improved patient outcomes.”
