Patna: Several districts of Bihar have reported extensive agricultural losses after sudden storms, heavy rainfall and hailstorms damaged standing crops and horticultural produce over the past few days. Authorities have initiated a state-wide assessment to determine the scale of destruction.
Widespread Agricultural Losses
Farmers have reported significant damage to wheat, maize, vegetable and pulse crops. In several regions, strong winds and hail have flattened fields, leading to concerns over reduced yields this season.
Horticultural crops have also been affected, with mango and litchi orchards reporting premature fruit drop and physical damage to trees, increasing losses for orchard owners.
Government Orders Statewide Survey
The state government has directed the Department of Agriculture and the Disaster Management Department to conduct joint surveys in all affected districts.
According to official instructions, district administrations have been placed on alert and District Magistrates have been asked to submit detailed reports on the extent of crop damage.
Assurance of Relief to Farmers
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the government is committed to providing timely assistance to affected farmers after accurate assessment of losses.
He stated that financial aid will be disbursed based on survey findings and assured that no affected farmer will be left without support. Officials have also been instructed to ensure transparency in preparing beneficiary lists.
Field-Level Assessment Underway
Agriculture department teams are expected to visit villages across the state to conduct on-the-spot inspections of damaged crops and orchards. The compiled reports will be submitted to the state government for further action.
Weather Advisory and Preparedness
The Meteorological Department has forecast continued chances of strong winds and rainfall in parts of Bihar over the coming days. In response, district authorities have been asked to remain on alert and farmers have been advised to follow weather advisories.
Officials said the final relief package will be determined after completion of the survey process, which is expected to guide compensation distribution in the coming weeks.
