Patna: The Bihar government has ordered a comprehensive cyber audit across all its departments and installations in view of the growing threat of cyber attacks in the state.
The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) has been nominated as the nodal agency for ensuring cyber security at the state level. The exercise will be carried out with the support of the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), and other national-level institutes.
Officials said the cyber audit will cover online activities including departmental websites, online services, and transactions to assess their compliance with cyber security standards. Any discrepancies or anomalies identified during the audit will be removed at the earliest.
The decision comes after several recent cyber attacks targeting government installations and websites, including those of Smart City projects, Dial 112 services, and public utility portals. In a recent incident, the system at AIIMS Patna also faced a failure due to suspected cyber intrusion.
“The cyber related crime incidents have emerged as the biggest challenge. The nexus of cyber gangs has also come to the fore and swift, stern action will be taken against them,” said Nayyar Hasnain Khan, Additional Director General, EOU.
He added that a special strategy is being finalised to carry out the audit and maintain cyber protocols and hygiene across departments. The audit is aimed at identifying gaps and taking remedial measures to strengthen the state’s cyber security framework.
