Patna: Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar has issued a strong warning against dowry-related offences, crimes against women and indiscipline within the police force, saying officials involved in such acts have “no moral right” to remain in service.
The Bihar DGP made the remarks while addressing a one-day workshop on gender-based violence at Sardar Patel Bhawan, the headquarters of the Bihar Police, on Tuesday.
‘No Right To Remain In Service’
Vinay Kumar said any Sub-Inspector or government official who entered into a second marriage after securing a government job should not be allowed to continue in service.
He also called for “severe social ostracism” against individuals found involved in such acts, asserting that no sympathy should be shown towards offenders.
The DGP said police personnel participating in social evils such as dowry harassment had forfeited their moral legitimacy to serve in the force.
Action Taken Against Police Personnel
According to Vinay Kumar, several Bihar Police personnel and officers have already been found implicated in dowry harassment cases.
He said action had been initiated against more than a dozen police personnel in connection with such allegations.
The DGP further stated that officials involved in corruption or harassment of victims should be dismissed immediately.
Crimes Against Women Require Social Change, Says DGP
The Bihar police chief argued that crimes against women could not be controlled solely through legislation and policing, stressing the need for broader social change.
He urged women police personnel to move beyond station-based duties and conduct awareness drives at the Panchayat level.
According to him, rural women must be informed about their legal rights so they can speak out against:
- domestic violence
- dowry harassment
- sexual offences
Concern Over Rising Gang Culture Among Youth
During the workshop, Vinay Kumar also expressed concern over increasing crime rates and the growing “gang culture” among young people.
He said parental negligence and lack of supervision were contributing to children falling into harmful influences and criminal activity.
Appealing to guardians to monitor their children’s activities closely, he warned that the absence of proper guidance could have serious long-term consequences for society.
