Patna: The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation has moved forward with plans to modernise public transport by introducing 200 electric buses under Phase II of the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme.
The corporation has issued a Letter of Award to GreenCell Mobility Private Limited, which was selected by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the project.
Electric Bus Operations Expected By June-End
Transport secretary Raj Kumar said the first batch of 200 electric buses is expected to arrive in Bihar by the first week of June.
According to officials, the target is to begin operations by the final week of June.
Raj Kumar said a total of 400 electric buses would eventually operate in Bihar under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, significantly expanding the state’s public transport network.

GreenCell Mobility To Oversee Operations
Atul Kumar Verma, administrator, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) said GreenCell Mobility would be responsible for supplying, operating and maintaining the 200 electric buses in the 9-metre category.
The buses will operate under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, under which the operator manages fleet services while infrastructure support is developed alongside the project.
Officials said charging stations, depots and related electrical and civil infrastructure were being developed rapidly in coordination with relevant agencies.
GPS, CCTV And Panic Buttons Planned
The electric buses will include several technology-based safety and passenger convenience features, including:
- GPS tracking systems
- CCTV surveillance cameras
- panic buttons
- digital passenger information systems
- comfortable seating
- disability-accessible facilities
Authorities said the buses were intended to provide safer, more reliable and accessible transport facilities across urban areas.
Push For Cleaner Public Transport
The Bihar government said the transition to electric buses was expected to reduce pollution levels, lower dependence on private vehicles and help ease traffic congestion.
Officials added that electric buses would significantly reduce carbon emissions compared with diesel-powered vehicles, contributing to improved urban air quality and long-term environmental sustainability.
The initiative forms part of the state’s broader effort to build a modern, affordable and eco-friendly public transport system in Bihar.
