Motihari: The Motihari police have taken disciplinary action after a video of alleged police misbehavior with a couple during vehicle checking went viral, sparking public outrage. DIG Hari Kishor Rai on Tuesday suspended Chhatauni police station SHO PSI Amarjeet Kumar, Additional SHO PSI Arif Hussain, PSI Indrakant Kumar, and PSI Mohini Kumari.
The department has also recommended termination of the contract of Home Guard jawan Surendra Sah, who was allegedly involved in the incident. The recommendation has been sent to the District Commandant, Home Guard, Motihari.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in Bariyarpur under Chhatauni police station limits when Anuradha Kumari was returning to Ban Bhitha on a motorcycle with her husband Pintu Kumar. According to the couple, a police team standing in the dark signaled them to stop. When their bike moved ahead, the policemen allegedly showed a stick and demanded their ID card.
The couple claimed that when Pintu Kumar asked what crime he had committed, the policemen became angry and assaulted both of them. Hearing the commotion, local villagers rushed to the spot.
Witnesses alleged that SHO Amarjeet Kumar then tried to forcibly make some of the protesting villagers sit inside a police vehicle, which led to further tension. The situation calmed only after prolonged persuasion by locals.
Action Taken
The police administration swung into action after the video of the incident spread on social media and public anger grew. DIG Hari Kishor Rai confirmed the suspensions and said that strict disciplinary measures were necessary to maintain public trust in the police force.
