Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation has announced a comprehensive cleanliness drive, launching on August 15 and continuing until October 2, aimed at tackling waste and pollution in the city during the upcoming festive season.
Under the banner ‘Freedom from Garbage’, the campaign will focus on raising awareness about sanitation and enforcing stricter regulations to keep the city clean. A key measure will be a complete ban on the purchase, sale and storage of single-use plastics such as polythene bags, cups and straws. Those found violating the ban will face fines.
Sanitation teams will be formed at the ward level to monitor daily progress, with reports filed regularly to ensure accountability. The campaign will include several targeted initiatives:
- No Plastic Fantastic: Enforcement of the single-use plastic ban alongside educational efforts to reduce plastic waste.
- Yellow Spot Elimination: Strengthening monitoring to address the problem of open urinals in public spaces.
- Garbage Sensitive Point Management: Organising rallies and cleanliness drives at garbage collection hotspots to raise public awareness.
- Private Land Cleaning: Special clean-up operations on privately owned land where garbage has accumulated, coupled with outreach to landowners on proper waste management.
- Black List Enforcement: Registering and taking action against individuals who litter public spaces.
- Road Enemy Campaign: Identifying and publicly tagging individuals or businesses responsible for dirtying roads and public areas.
Patna Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to dispose of waste only in designated dustbins and to cooperate fully with efforts to curb plastic use. Citizens are encouraged to report instances of littering or violations via the helpline number 155304 or through the WhatsApp chatbot.
